WoLF has always been a staunch defender of women’s rights in the courts, leveraging our strength in feminist legal argument. This year, we faced the challenge of fighting on many fronts and in numerous courts.
Together, this year, we continued our feminist legal advocacy for incarcerated women in California housed with men, a despicable violation of UN standards. Our case was dismissed by a judge who claimed our fears of rape were 'overstated.' Soon after, Tremaine Caroll, housed in the Chowchilla Women’s Facility, was charged with two counts of rape within the facility—the WoLF community was there to protest during his sentencing!
In response, we broke the story nationally and ran a billboard to alert residents. Our supporters joined us in protesting during Carroll's trial. We have since refiled our case in the US District Court, adding two new plaintiffs to the suit, Chandler v. Macomber. #SexNotGender
