I truly believe that one reason there are so many incels these days is because it is now harder for men attracted to women to bully women into being their sexual/romantic partners. (Mind you, I am speaking from an USian context.)

We can have bank accounts now. We had an unprecedented level of reproductive autonomy. For these reasons, women could more freely exist outside of heteronormativity. Abuse and rape are (somewhat) less socially acceptable. I think the incel movement is backlash.
