Never looked deeply into this, but my understanding is that there a decryption key that reveals the contents of the disk (stream cypher kind) and that key is protected by a password that the user provides at boot time.
Are you saying that the attack makes it possible to recover that stream cypher key that for some reason is laying around unprotected?
