as a counterpoint, I have always thought of EMF as the no-politics-low-politics one of these events. it is a gathering of hackspaces, and a lot of UK hackspaces _are_ "apolitical". at a previous event, a member of EMF orga argued that membership of a hackspace demonstrates specific political views, when mostly it just demonstrates that you can spend £20/month on access to tools.
