I'd say it is best to start with some GNU/Linux distribution that uses a desktop that is close to what you are used in Windows. For example a distro with KDE Plasma as a desktop (openSUSE, Fedora KDE spin, Kubuntu, …) or something with Cinnamon (Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, …)
