Humans tend to overestimate their importance and impact in the world. Whatever ideas that are shared in this thread are very unlikely to change the world in any significant way but we don’t like to admit that. At best, we can influence our inner circles but even that is a big ask. People are too complex to change from a single conversation. And even if you had countless conversations, a lot of people just are the way they are. You can’t change them unless they want to change or something happens in their life that forces a change. I’m sure you know that very well being a therapist.

But yeah the trade off in nostr is that there is no final ruler. No one is responsible for the actions of another. It is a good thing for an open protocol like this but the downside is that you’re more exposed to all kinds of people. I’ve had a couple people just go out of their way trying to argue with me for no reason. And after ruining my day trying to convince them to change their minds, I realized that I accomplished nothing. So I just muted. I don’t have time to unravel all of their traumas, past experiences, and genetic makeup to fix them 😂

But here is the flip side that is more positive for me. I can follow like minded people that I enjoy talking to and mute everyone that I don’t want to deal with. They don’t even know that they’re muted which is key. If I block them, they can see that they were blocked and can make new accounts and continue to harass me. But because they’re muted, they may continue wasting their time trying to bother me and eventually get bored and give up.
