For my purposes, these articles are burying the lede: Stract appears to be entirely in Rust.
It includes user-defined ranking and filtering, which is an amazing pro-user feature that I'm excited about. Google wouldn't do this because it "wouldn't scale."
Here's the thing: genuinely federated or open source things _don't have to scale._ Not like a single-company program does.
