Fedi would be better off if it took Mosseri at face value 👇🏽: Meta has to comply with the GDPR and CCPA while federating with Fedi instances who, generally, don't even know what GDPR or CCPA are. This is Occam's razor for a lot of their somewhat weird Fedi-choices.

You can argue that it is bad faith compliance (and even good-faith compliance is problematic, since it reinforces the FB-Google ad network duopoly) but it is at least some sort of compliance.
