Personally I would let the web be the web. But if you had to pick 1 of 2, probably long form notes are better than ephemeral packets that may rate throttled. Its of course use case dependent. When privacy is critical you might want to mix it up a bit. There's also things like blossom and nosdav, solid and many regular web solutions such as in :
