I have a theory that a not insignificant portion of the US population (not only women) has a unhealthy fascination with royalty (https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2022/09/america-fascination-royalty-queen-elizabeth-ii/676724/), and would really rather be subjects than have to deal with the onus of free thought and an ethical system of consensus.
The rich and powerful must know what they are doing to get to their station in life, after all. Say the right things or hate the right people, and those folks will throw their hat in with them.
I don't know that they understand the functional difference between feudalism and a democracy. King/president, congressman/vassal, senator/duke...all interchangeable.
