I've been thinking a lot about #Mastodon these past few days. Is it possible for something mostly run by volunteers to be effective at moderation and safety? If even the richest companies struggle with it in a centralized format, how can multiple instances deal with the sheer volume and complexity (including language and culture) of trust and safety. I'm not making excuses for negligence on the part of the devs, but is it even feasible?
