What we are seeing in the West is a small cadre of financial, industrial and political elites who mistake their fortuitous success for innate genius.

Now things are not going their way and they are becoming frustrated and bewildered. So they double down on their policies and become increasingly autocratic. With the inevitable further failures, they lash out and blame others. Their hubris prevents them from seeing their own inadequacy.

Unfortunately, they still control the levers of power and could do a lot of damage before they are removed.
