We feel it when it becomes personal.
Beirut was lit up like this off and on since the 80s.
Forever wars of the American Empire, keeping the dollar strong and the military industrial complex buoyant.
Always a bad guy or bogeyman to blame, to provoke, to strike preemptively in the name of democracy. Maybe a colour revolution or two so the talking heads get excited along the way.
Then when it's carnage and devastation, saddle up that country with eternal debts, strip their assets, and send in the contractors to rebuild at great expense.
Ordinary folk are collateral, hopefully don't get in the way, but sacrificed for the greater good if they do.
Human nature alone will never solve this... it comes from within us... the distribution of darkness largely unchanged from age to age, and on average from person to person.
Maybe 'AGI' is the solution we are projecting, and maybe it will end up simply amplifying our darkness while we wring our hands and wonder what we have created.
Maybe Bitcoin will tame and regulate our nature, playing our sins against our incentives, making it hard to act out without letting go of our precious. An emergent web of game theory and psychology holding the fine balance and returning us to a path of growth. In the short term it's really our only hope.
Maybe non of it works out and the book of Revelation turns out to be prophecy after all, something outside of ourselves and unrelated to our natures, the kingdom of heaven finally asserting itself on earth, rounding up the agitators, confiscating the weapons, rebooting the nature of those who are willing to serve the Prince of Peace. History has always been a tension between kings and anarchy. One day that will converge and the tension will be resolved.
Just another note transmitted by relays.
