This is some pet hypothesis slash conspiracy theory that's been making the rounds since Oct 7. Sure, there's a gas field in the Mediterranean but it's so far off the coast that if Israel wanted it they would have taken it already - decades ago.
Same with the supposed Ben Gurion canal which was on the drawing board half a century ago, but again the idea that this should be the motivation for the current war "to clear out Gaza" is very silly since the run if the canal passes north of the Gaza strip.
