Been thinking a lot lately about how weird tech culture is. There's industry, there's academia, and then there's this mix of hobby culture, fandom, and religion (with "visionaries" as prophets). Some of it happening in meatspace but much of it online, so there's also a big overlap with internet culture.
I wonder if there's any anthropological research yet about these things... open source communities, language communities, silicon valley culture.
