prlimit & systemd-run don't. They limit allocation, the former even breaking mmap-ing beyond the limit, while the latter permits larger mmaps, but if one run "free" within then, the Total system memory doesn't change.
cgroups look considerably more cumbersome to use, so I want to be sure it's worth the bother.
