Algorithmically driven: not really! The default is chrono, just like here. You can optionally subscribe to other "Feeds" which group posts in different ways, and surface posts you might not otherwise see.
For-profit: Yes it is, but not now. And they have stated their monetization looks more like selling premium services than ad-based revenue. That's a big "we'll see," but that is the current state.
It wasn't started by Dorsey. Jay Graber was recruited by Parag Agrawal, in line with Dorsey's vision for the next generation of social media being open, protocol based, and decentralized. Bluesky became a satellite project inside of Twitter, until Dorsey bounced and the Elon writing was on the wall. (Read "Character Limit" for more)
"Centralized." Okay this one is a mess right now. ATProto's design, as it is, is not centralized. But the Bluesky service is as of right now. This is where Doctorow gets mad, because he believes a 15M user service now is too big to decentralize. That remains to be seen, but the tools for ATProto AppViews to interrelate are on the dev roadmap. It's another "we'll see."
For my part, I still really, really prefer the Masto experience. My people are here, and it's focused on my interests more. That said, I find the Bluesky community more diverse, and I also just find the technicals of the app/protocol fascinating. There are choices made for moderation/safety that Masto can only dream of. At the very least, worth checking out for those points.
