"content": "The spec contradicts itself. Non-reply/root tags used to indicate other events in the reply chain (before https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/commit/6f5f9856b970992bd282d9cac2671975556ba05f), and still do for the positional semantics. Which means the most correct behavior would be to omit the mention mark for ancestors. But that would result in no acceptable position for e-mention tags with quote semantics.\n\nThe correct way (IMO) to quote thing is in NIP 18, which defines the use of the q tag. Some work needs to be done to clean all this up.",
