Millions of red crabs have taken over Christmas Island in their annual migration, says The Independent. Every year when the island sees the wet season’s first rainfall, any time between October and January, crowds of the crustaceans emerge from the forests and swarm to the ocean where they breed. David Attenborough regards his footage of 120 million of the creatures spawning on the beach, shown in his 1990 series The Trials of Life, as one of his “greatest TV moments”.
