The statement that "Russia has been doing border control for us for free" is 100% Russian narrative, copied verbatim from earlier Belarussian narrative used to justify their human trafficking business started in 2015. Nobody is "doing anything for you for free", quite the opposite.
As a reminder, #Belarus has been since 2015 advertising "one step way to EU" in Middle East social media, selling one-way air tickets to Minsk and tourist visas for thousands of dollars. Then KGB is bussing these people to Brest and sending in groups to the forest border with guides. Then not letting anyone out of the forest because, guess what, their tourist visas are now invalid! As winter comes, some of them will now die in camps in the border forest. Which Belarussian propaganda will of course blame on... Poland who built a fence specifically to stop this kind of commercial human trafficking.
As a reminder, both Russia and Belarus are now police states, with internal borders between oblasts and police checks on railway and bus stations. The idea that a group of "asylum seekers" could happily enter Russia on the south border and then roam thousands of kilometers to the Finnish border is delusional.
And I mention "asylum" in quotes because if you're an actual refugee, you don't fly into Russia or Belarus on a tourist visa. The correct name would be "victims of state-sponsored human trafficking", and legally they are at 100% responsibility of the countries that accepted them based on commercial visas. It's possible that those appearing on Finnish border now previously camped in Belarus and FSB took them north as they failed to cross into Poland — which only demonstrates that the fence works, and what Finland is doing is 100% correct.
In summary, that's a fully organized, merciless business, managed by FSB and KGB, whose sole purpose is to "punish" Eastern European countries for not loving Lukashenka and Putin. And now, since Poland built the fence and #Finland joined #NATO, they decided to punish Finland. Normalizing Russian narratives by saying "oh let's just allow FSB business flourish unbothered" doesn't really help anyone.
