It crushes my soul a little bit to think of how many people made accounts over here, made one or two posts, got one reply they didn't like, then gave up on not only the instance they were on, but the entire concept and all the principles wrapped up in it, and wrote the whole thing off as a lost cause.
Like, damn, I know it was an uphill battle to convince folks out of that bubble of corporate social media, but talk about doing everything you could to set it up for failure.
I know for a fact you don't hold Twitter to that standard, because if your account's anything like mine, it's been peppered with some mix of hate speech, spam and unsolicited nonsense for months to years now, yet it's only now, when it's gone "full fascist", that people are writing it off as a truly lost cause.
There is nowhere online you can go now that you won't have to cultivate your community a little, to find who you like and who you don't. This is in no way unique to Mastodon, and is not a flaw of this service or its users!
