Isn’t it time to start saying, loudly, that the terms “conservative” and “conservatism” have nothing to do with what we’re using them on nowadays? The word “conserve“ means to protect, to preserve, to keep alive, to maintain. The mass psychosis referred to today as conservative has nothing to do with any of these things. It is afraid and destructive and dark. It is paranoid, irrational, and hateful. I’m not quite sure what we should call it instead, but it is not conservative or conservatism.
