Out on a day trip with a group of seniors today - such a wonderful way to spend a day every now and then.

Their hair sporting more silver threads than gold, it’s a reminder that time itself really does go so fast. The beauty in their tired eyes, the wrinkles on their hard working hands, the ever so slight hunch in their aged posture; they’re all such natural things that need embracing.

I slowed down today. While my ice cream melted faster than I could eat it, my eyes glistened a bit as a sat listening to a widow of 9 years tell me that this was her first outing in months. “Everyone is so busy. My kids are just so busy, and I have no other family here.”

So we sat. Just her and I. Talking and listening respectively, until it was time to go.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been hugged tighter by an elderly lady. She made my day. I hope that, ever so slightly, I made hers too.
