I wonder if there's a "salinity" effect, where new users of a service are going to be more engaged, and perhaps more motivated to engage in order to demonstrate the viability of the network. Whereas an older network is going to have a lot of dead followers or bots.
Also, quite a few people automatically strip off tracking links on URLs (ClearURLS ❤️) so I wonder if enough do that to skew it.
