evacuating to SJ was the most surreal experience of my life. Remember the day the sun was a red ball? I had to go to Target that day. It was so dim all the street lights were on, and it was during lockdown so there was hardly any traffic at any time. I felt like a ghost moving through the apocalypse.
But I also had the best Pakistani yellow dal I’ve ever tasted, and we were living there so I got to eat it again and again for that month or so. The food around the Bay Area is truly the best in the US, especially for people like us with limited diets.
But this is a good place to live too! And once you get used to all that extra light and the mild seasons, it’s a versatile place to grow a lot of veggies. I wish I could grow citrus and avocado, but now I get lilacs and long pea seasons, it balances out!
