The board itself should not consume that much power, probably negligible compared to CPU, Graphics, wireless cards and storage.
Also, depending on clock speed, memory will be more power consuming, I guess.
On game engines I'd agree more but still, depends on what do developers use for each game. Maybe it's a broad range... dunno, trying to find a reasoning behind that, heh
