This other video reminded me of something I thought a lot about when growing up in a poor neighborhood.
Money there went to pay rent, food, utilities, childcare, gas whatever. And that’s obvious, I think, for most people: if you can afford to save you aren’t poor so… that part sorts itself out. Or rather those people sort themselves out of the pool of poor folks.
What I wondered about was if folks knew that most of the proceeds from crime or sexwork or whatever, actually went to pay for legitimate things: rent, taxes, food.
So as a kid I was wondering if the rich people who complained about crime knew how much of their income actually came from crime.
