And this was on the days they already had slaughtered chickens ready (drained and plucked) to go for cooking. Freezers weren’t available yet, so blocks of ice in a refrigerator box was as good as it got. There was a smokehouse to tend, protect from predators, keep smoked up etc. It was exhausting just to hear her describe her daily life. Rest on Sunday after church, after that same cooking routine, which consisted of reading the Bible and memorizing scripture, maybe fishing in summer, or a church picnic, but rarely any fun.
You sure aren't kidding. As much as I think that modern living does make most of us off, I'm also glad that I don't have to do all that, at least not yet. LOL.
