I saw what happened with node.js being sold to joyent, and being forked to iojs, before Joyent abandoned node.js trademarks or whatever and iojs became node.js again, but without Ryan Dahl.

This has me wondering: has there ever been a successful acquisition of an open-source project from the original creator?

I think most end up with a hardfork or die;
