Let’s talk about how disheartening it is to look for reference pictures to draw and see 50% of results are AI generated.
First of all I’m not against AI technology, that’s both my parents’ area of study and there are genuinely amazing applications, especially for medical and accessibility purposes, that I’m very excited about.
However, in the art space, most AI models are trained on artists’ work (drawings, photographs, text, etc) without permission (aka art theft) and many are then shared without disclosing they are AI.
The space is now full of images that lack any life, and most platforms offer no way to differentiate between them and genuine submissions by artists.
This is one of the main reasons I’ve been using Pinterest less and turning to #naturephotography here and other social media where the artists are.
