In Iowa they have RAGBRAI, which stands for Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. It was started by two columnists at the Des Moines Register in the early 70's and this year 60000 people rode from the Missouri River to the Mississippi River. There is usually one 100 mile day. Only one person died on it this year. It always seems to be the hottest week of the year, too. It came through Newton this week and they closed our main avenue for it. We were an overnight town one year and we found people sleeping on our picnic table on the post office dock and there was a naked guy hosing himself off between the post office and the chiropractic clinic.
