How to Talk so Little Kids will Listen.
Great book by Joanna Faber & Julie King that contains lots of helpful experience compiled from their many years of helping parents through a wide variety of challenges.
Theres so many insights here, and what most interested me most were the tools for handling kids emotions, such as instead of scolding, asking questions or lecturing, try to acknowledge feelings with words, art, writing or fantasy or just silent attention. By giving them our full attention we allow them to find their own way through their feelings and trust them to work it out. There’s a caveat here that all feelings can be accepted but some actions must be limited.
It’s been a challenge to use these tools sometimes, especially in the heat of the moment, but the results have been well worth the extra effort!
Recommended reading for anyone with young kids.
