I think about Linux (which has many versions running it). If that was just called Kernel1991 would it have been adopted so well?
Chromium is the engine for Chrome and many other browsers. It's also based on Firefox, but doesn't use that brand or a bland edition designation.
tl;dr -- 5e needs a cool name
