I did that initially but couldn't imagine that google didn't have inter app communication of some sort even without gboard having no access to the network. It could potentially leak key logs to other google services app that has network access by default to function. This alone made me feel more secure with Heliboard that has no network requirement to begin with and has no conflict of interest with other apps.
