Then put it in the fridge to sit at least a few hours. It will come out softened and delicious and it's your new favorite sandwich topping.
It's so simple, but salting onions ahead of time takes a lot of the sharp edge off, brings out a lot of flavor and sweetness. Very little, prep time is negligible, keeps a while, it's really good.
