And there must certainly be a feeling of "we've got so much to do, we can't voluntarily dilute our voting power now". But they would be wise to look to the right as well and see what happens when essentially a party splits dramatically (into "continuing Conservatives and Reform") under first past the post. If they are fighting each other rather than already in some kind of an assumed coalition at the ballot box things can go really badly under FPTP.
And if they worry at all about "the left" then surely the best way to keep them in the fold is to make it possible for them to be elected honestly instead of in some kind of uneasy party arrangement.
I agree it seems unlikely. But then a whole raft of new blood with the party membership largely behind them might feel that the one good thing they could do for the future of "Labour led" governments would be to change the system to make them more likely. Especially if it looks like the future is more pluralistic than ever.
I just can't see how they can reconcile the very system that handed them power with "justice" and I would hope that with a human rights lawyer in charge they'd be concerned about "justice". :)
