Simine Vazire's comment, for example, that more in-house checking is needed is the kind of thing I'm talking about, but lots of well-supported experimentation is required.
People continually make the mistake of assuming that peer review is expensive and unremunerated so we can do it for cheap via another means. This is just the worst starting point.
