I've been thinking a lot about anguish lately (re: a dream I recently had) and the definition given in a book on writing emotions by Famous Writer Whom I Will Not Name.

Basically, FW said that anguish is being caught between two choices that are both terrible.

It's a simplistic def, but mostly works (AKA, The Trolley Problem).

But I think there's so much guilt and helplessness that factor in as well.
