Even as someone who doesn't drink that often I'll take the contrarian view on that one.
One must ask why some, seemingly "toxic", human habits are widespread and secular.
I'd argue that even given that it is bad for you, specially not in moderation, it might be good for the survival of the species, how many babies were born thanks to the social lubricant (pun intended) effect of alcohol?
