I agree with you. The only thing I can think of is that people have a very poor perception about the risks to students, especially Jewish ones, due to biassed media coverage.

If these encampments were posing a genuine threat to an at-risk group of students, that would be a compelling reason to be very against these protests. I've not seen that and very much push back on that claim, but it is one that the news and politicians seem to be peddling.
