In traditional meditation, most people try to quiet their mind, and it can become a struggle. This is not possible; the mind always hums.
The most important thing I was ever taught about meditation: Meditation requires no effort. Zero. If it requires effort to quiet your mind, don't.
Effort disturbs stillness. Allow yourself to find stillness in the noise, but only when it is effortless.
When I meditate, I listen for the resonance of my own mind humming against the background of chaos. I do not focus, I do not strive, I merely listen without opinion. Once one hears the hum, it becomes very easy to reach a state of meditative equanimity.
Chaos is not found in stillness, stillness is found in chaos.
