Interested to know peoples thoughts on the independent music economy in the advent of AI that can produce commercially usable music with just a few prompts.
Any musician in the ad/library world is toast surely?
Streaming platforms are already terrible for musicians are already getting heavily spammed with low quality music, whilst not paying higher quality music at all.
As a professional audio engineer I’ve been very happy using all kinds of tech and have made use of LLM type applications (these are not AI though, despite the marketing).
I’ve sustained myself as an independent for over 20 years but it’s hard to imagine the future at this point.
I try to be open minded and will use tools I find useful (at this point Logic’s new mastering tool and RIP X help me turn jobs around quicker).
I’ve barely used prompt based tools, although I found it funny the credits Chat GPT attributed to me (Radiohead and Adele lol).
The idea of creating music from text prompts doesn’t excite me. The reason I do music is I enjoy the flow state of the creative process and this has been the best lane for me to sustain a positive mental state.
What are musicians here thinking?

Ps. A simple “Bitcoin fixes this” won’t cut it.
