"We need people to choose their algorithms, instead of the algorithms simply being open for the public to look through".
An algorithm is, plainly, a set of computer rules to make stuff happen. He's referring to social media algorithms, which are super complex.
What he doesn't see is that people already pick their algorithms. We consent to use something, and that's our vote. If we don't like it, we do something else.
