Dr. M on Nostr: I don't know how many people realize how much Greenland is an outlier in almost ...

I don't know how many people realize how much Greenland is an outlier in almost everything. There are only about 56,000 of them scattered along thousands of kilometers of coastline. The territory is huge, but it's mostly ice. The populated areas are dots along the coast, not connected by road. There are no roads outside the populated areas - you can't go anywhere by car except to the village where you live, so even the SUVs, which people usually have, are in various remote areas. There are roads in your village, and practically right outside the village the ice starts 🥶 Those ATVs, like four-wheeled motorcycles, are popular, they're the best thing for those conditions.

There's nothing useful, the economy is non-existent. Practically everything has to be imported. It's possible that there's oil or lithium reserves somewhere below or I have no idea what - nothing has been publicly announced. It's possible that the "big players" know about it, and we ordinary citizens - don't. But I don't even believe it. I think Trump's main motive is some kind of "imperial legacy" - whatever happens, he will be remembered as the president who expanded the USA by XY square kilometers, and no one has done that for over a hundred years. (The proclamation of, for example, Hawaii and Alaska from territory status to state status is not an expansion of the USA, because they had those territories before, they just changed their status internally.) I think that is Trump's biggest motive. The Americans already have a large base in the north, Thule, but that's a separate story.

Out of 56 thousand people, only 25k work, and of that 10k are in the public sector. The least populated state in the USA - Wyoming, has OVER TEN TIMES more inhabitants than Greenland. Mind you, it is the smallest US state out of 50 (+DC). Half of the money for everything Greenlanders get from Mother Denmark. Denmark is not big, but the population of Greenland is so tiny, about 1% of the population of the Kingdom of Denmark, that even if they consider them all social cases, the rich Danes can financially handle it. (When they tolerate immigrants from everywhere, why not the good Greenlanders who have been residents of the Kingdom for centuries?)

The left-wing and woke media - besides being disgusted by Trump, of course - are also disgusted by "colonialism" and the fact that Greenland is part of Denmark. They would prefer Greenland to be independent and happy, they have been rooting for it for decades, to be a welfare state with 40% of employees in the public sector living off... what exactly? Melting ice? 😁 Even whaling, a traditional activity, would be banned by the global left because it's a bit disgusting.

No, I believe that the top solution of the urban leftists would be for Greenland to become independent, and Denmark to send money anyway, because they should feel guilty about something (white guilt). Something like that. And that everyone sits in lockdown. Who knew, the ideas of the modern left are all crazier than the other.

The chances of such a solution are zero. I think the MAGA plan to buy it or "buy it" is quite realistic and actually smart, no matter how crazy it may seem at first glance. Greenland is visually magical in places. They also have a new airport, so Americans can take direct flights from their neurotic crime-ridden cities to the icy paradise.

I have a feeling that the people of Greenland, to the despair of media like the Guardian, will slowly turn to America because it will add up to 2+2.
