Every time I hear "Learn to code" I think "Learn to weld", so hearing your interest as an IT guy is refreshing.
Take an introductory welding class at your local community college. It is fascinating and so practical. People then will seek you out with cash in hand if you can weld their broken stuff.
One other plus: when I am welding, I don't think about anything else.
