Many seem to regard ivy as a weed, but it blossoms in September providing a vital late-season feast for butterflies, hoverflies, bees and wasps before the colder weather comes in hard. So don’t be harsh - let it grow and if you must cut it back please leave that until *after* it finishes flowering in late November. The long ivy-clad wall where I took this photo was absolutely *humming* with insects.
