This is fantastic. I now understand why you want to put the New Note button there.
I will still personally be in favor of bottom corners. Possibly hover over the most right column (This also would give Left/right handed accessibility). My only reasoning is that i don't think top left corner is ergonomic even with mouse and keyboard.
Just my 2 sats.
