I know that in the digital privacy world we talk a lot about protecting your data. However, the term "data" means little to the average person. 'Why do I care about protecting data like how many times I open an app? Let companies have that, I don't care.' I think the term data itself, while accurate, doesn't carry the oomph that makes people feel this is a real problem they should be concerned with.
If you tell people to "protect their private information", I think that carries more weight.
