In a strange, nostalgic way, turns out that I think I actually like receiving email. Personal email, written by a human and addressing me specifically, that is.

To be honest, I think I'd be much more pleased to talk to my older relatives and friends over email than via an "app." Hell, even plaintext email would work; I'd not expect any privacy through those apps either.
