And, beyond just making it safe for people who don’t quite understand how dangerous seemingly placid geothermal springs are, tourist sites need parking lots and there is no space near this site that isn’t either a protected reforestation area or geothermally active. Paving over hot springs is not sensible and the reason why Icelanders know this is we’ve tried and it never ends well
